Logic of Bone Support
Maintaining bone health is a complex and multifactorial issue that must
focus on optimizing conditions in the micro-architectural environment
of bones. Two facets must be considered in maintaining bone integrity.

Oss Aide Doses
VITAMIN K
Oss Aide contains a very generous amount of Vitamin K1, a
crucial component to bone health; Oss Aide provides 20 times
the RDA of Vitamin K1 as a water soluble form with an absorption >
70%. In contrast, the absorption of pure form fat soluble Vitamin K1 is
40% or less. Vitamin K1 in foods has an even lower bioavailability.
To obtain the same amount of Vitamin K1 found in Oss Aid
a person would need to eat: 300 apples or 4lbs of liver meat or 200 cups
of cows milk or 1.5 lbs of spinach or 7 lbs of tomatoes or 3 lbs of broccoli
or 1 lb of cauliflower.
Furthermore, the nutritional significance of Vitamin K produced by colonic
bacteria is not clear, and colonic absorption of bacterial menaquinones
(Vitamin K forms) is less than 10% at best. Vitamin K1 doses > 10mg/day
have been shown to have no side effects.
In summary, the average diet provides meager amounts of Vitamin K1, <100
micrograms/day and less than half of it is bioavailable.
CALCIUM/MAGNESIUM
The 1200mg daily calcium and 400mg of magnesium intake recommendations
are targeted towards creating a 20:1 calcium/protein and a 3:1 calcium/magnesium
ration; assuming a fractional absorption for calcium and magnesium of
28-33%. Thus, if you consume the average 60 grams of protein a day, you
will need 1200mg of calcium and 400mg magnesium from various sources.
Simply stated, you need to absorb about 400mg +-10% of magnesium. The
calcium and magnesium malate forms in Oss Aide have a 85-90%
absorption efficiency and can thus deliver 350mg of calcium and 85mg of
magnesium, in addition to what is provided in your diet. See Table 1.

VITAMIN D
Oss Aide provides 200 IU/day or 50% the recommended daily
intake (RDI).
Women who do not get enough sun, require about 600-1,000 IU/day to maintain
acceptable blood levels. Women that get some sun require 400 IU/day or
less.
Because a number of people use a daily multivitamin with 200-400 IU/day
and consume milk products that are fortified with Vitamin D, Oss Aide
provides 200 IU which is complementary to other intake sources without
contributing to chronic overdosing.
To prevent overloading on trace minerals, the same "complimentary
source" logic was applied to Zinc, Copper and Boron doses in Oss
Aide.
FOLIC ACID
Oss Aide provides 800mcg of Folic acid, 200% of the RDI.
Folates are critical to health and in the US are consumed in suboptimal
amounts. The average intake is 200-350mg/day. Folates play a crucial role
in collagen and glycosaminogylcan synthesis, ie. Bone organic matrix.
Oss Aide provides 800mcg of Folic Acid per dose or the equivalent
of 1.5 lbs of asparagus, or 1.5 lbs brussel sprouts, or 1 lb of spinach,
or 10 oranges, or 10 lbs of chees, or 1.5 lbs of whole wheat. Folic acid
daily intake up to 15,000mcg shows no toxicity.
Note: Folic Acid is about 1.7 times more bioavailable than dietary
folates from food.
