DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS
Human Microflora
The mother bacteria strains used in MicroCell HMF were originally
isolated during a research project in the 1940s from healthy human adults.
The strains used in most commercially available L. acidophilus producers
were originally isolated from animals and are intended for use in the
dairy and animal feed industry.
Human Specific Means Affinity and Compatibility
The selective isolation and characterization of MicroCell HMF bacteria
has resulted in strains of L. acidophilus and Bifidobacterium which are
compatible with the highly specific needs and conditions of the human
gastrointestinal tract MicroCell HMF bacteria attach 15 times better
to human cells. Non-human specific preparations do not attach well and
are rejected by our immune system.
Complementary Bacterial Strains
MicroCell HMF is a unique blend of human Lactobacillus acidophilus
and Bifidobacterium. These strains complement each other and successfully
populate the human intestine.
MicroCell Protection
MicroCell's patented microencapsulation process helps stabilize
the microorganisms in storage thus prolonging their shelf life. MicroCell
HMF delivers one billion viable organisms per capsule (HMF Forte
- six billion) even after 6 months of refrigeration the MicroCell
process further protects the bacteria in their vulnerable condition as
they, upon ingestion, awaken from stasis and begin to grow again.
Tolerant to Stomach Acid and Bile
MicroCell HMF's resistance to stomach acid and bile means it can
be taken with meals. High post digestion survival levels mean that a reduced
dose is effective. Only two capsules per day can deliver billions of beneficial
L. acidophilus and Bifidobacterium.
Agency Assayed
MicroCell HMF's L. acidophilus and Bifidobacterium are pure, highly
characterized strains, authenticated and held by the National Collections
for Industrial and Marine Bacteria. Ltd. United Kingdom. MicroCell HMF's
INT9 strain is patent pending. Each batch of MicroCell HMF is independently
assayed for the ADAS agency of The British Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries
and Food, which is the British equivalent of our USDA.

*NCIMB is an international agency in Aberdeen, Scotland devoted to Industrial
and Research Microbiology. They hold the status of International Depository
authority. They specialize in bacterial identification using classical
methods and updated techniques such as cell wall analysis, fatty acid
profiling and restriction endonuclease finger printing.

HMF Forte

MicroCell HMF is a mixture of complementary bacterial strains
Of the various types of lactobacilli, only Lactobacillus acidophilus and
Bifidobacterium are important in gut ecology.* They colonize different
regions of the human intestine under normal conditions. In the upper intestine,
L. acidophilus predominates. In the lower portion of the intestine, Bifidobacterium
plays a major beneficial role.
MicroCell HMF colonizes the human gastrointestinal tract
Because the HMF strain of acidophilus was isolated from human intestinal
tract, it has a high affinity to the mucosal lining. HMF acidophilus
binds effectively to human intestinal epithelium. In laboratory testing
with human epithelial cell lines HMF acidophilus adhered 15 times
more effectively than non-human derived acidophilus (Fig1).
MicroCell HMF is stable under physiologic conditions
HMF bacteria have been selected and processed to assure their viability.
As shown in Figure 2, HMF acidophilus retains 95% viability after
exposure to pH 3.5 in simulated gastric and duodenal juice (Fig. 3) for
up to 10 hours at body temperature. Because the bacteria resist gastric
acid and bile, HMF can be taken with meals.
MicroCell HMF is viable with a long shelf life
In general, lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium are sensitive to processing.
Special steps are required to assure organism viability and dramatically
increase storage time. HMF is harvested and freeze dried using specially
developed procedures which protect against damage and thus assure high
viability over an extended period of time.
